R. Tamara de Silva is a trial lawyer in Chicago. First and foremost, Ms.
de Silva is a fighter.
As a securities lawyer, she has extensive experience in transactional work
and regulatory and compliance work within the financial services industry.
She is one of few securities lawyers to have actually worked in the securities
industry as a floor trader and brokerage executive. Her understanding
of the financial services industry is unique to all but the most seasoned
securities lawyers. She has taken part in numerous arbitrations and negotiations
between traders and self-regulatory organizations. Her understanding of
the financial services industry including complex financial transactions,
derivatives, swaps and risk, as they affect traders, brokerage firms and
hedge funds, earned her clients in the financial services industry including
numerous trading groups, brokerages, hedge funds, traders, brokers and
Ms. de Silva has co-authored several articles on risk and regulation within
the financial markets.. She practiced criminal law under the mentorship
of Samuel F. Adam Sr., a highly respected criminal defense lawyer. Her
practice also includes representation of targets, subjects, and witnesses
in grand jury investigations by federal authorities, as well as individuals
under investigation (pre-indictment) and post-indictment allegations of
white-collar crime. She also handles civil rights and Constitutional law
cases in Federal Court.
She is a member of several bar associations including, the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago
Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Illinois Association
of Defense Trial Counsel, the Federal Bar Association and the American
Association for Justice.
At the present time, Ms. de Silva focuses her practice entirely on litigation.
However, Ms. de Silva is unabashed about being a generalist in her practice,
being fortunate to have been exposed to many areas of the law and having
success in all of them. She is equally effective as a defense lawyer and
as a plaintiff's lawyer. As a tireless and fearless advocate for the
underdog Ms. de Silva has an extensive record of pro bono work for poor
and indigent clients including work for First Defense Legal Aid. She has
had major wins both as plaintiff and defense counsel in employment law,
criminal law and civil rights law.
She is licensed in the Northern District of Illinois, is a member of the
Federal Trial Bar and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh
Circuit and has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of
the United States.
